Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings (CSKvPBKS): Match no. 53 of VIVO IPL 2021 will be played between these two teams CSK vs PBKS, The match will begin on 07 October 2021 at 03:30 PM IST.

Team winner Prediction:

Key Points:

  • Chennai Super Kings have a better-balanced side between the two, at least on paper
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis have been in incredibly good form and will be hard to dislodge
  • Not only the middle-order has looked out of form for the Kings, but their openers have also failed to accelerate in the middle overs even after getting set

CSK vs PBKS Analysis:

All this is happening in IPL 2021. As the race for the playoffs intensifies, all teams have a lot to play for. Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders are the frontrunners to occupy the top spot and it will be interesting to see how they qualify for the playoffs.

Another interesting competition that is taking place is the search for the top two sides on the ladder. Delhi Capitals have already qualified for the first qualifier and Chennai Super Kings will be eyeing to reserve the second spot in the next match.

Next in the tournament, Chennai Super Kings are set to play against Punjab Kings in the 53rd match of the competition.

Match Details:

Date: October 07, 2021
Time: 03:30 PM (IST)
Venue: Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai
Live Streaming: Disney+ Hotstar
TV: Star Sports Network.

Pitch and Weather Conditions:

The conditions in Dubai are expected to be slow and helpful to the spinners. This is going to be the second match in two days that is played in Dubai and the square is going to be drier than usual. The average score in Dubai has been less than 150 and even 130 has turned out to be a winning total on occasions.

For bettors, opportunities to bet the ‘Under’ on Total Runs, Total Sixes, and Total Fours are wide open. Take advantage. This has been the most profitable betting market for us in IPL 2021’s second leg.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK):

How the tables turn! Chennai Super Kings were the first team to be knocked out in 2020 and this year they became the first team to qualify for the playoffs. They have evolved into a formidable side after a terrible last season and seem to be embracing their new style of play. What still hasn’t changed has been their captain MS Dhoni’s calm approach and that has played a key role in defining this season for CSK.

As it currently stands, Chennai Super Kings are currently second on the ladder and will look to rise to the top by registering a win here in this match. A win for them would also seal the third spot in the table as Royal Challengers Bangalore would not be able to score 20 points then. The Super Kings have lost just four matches, all four while defending and this is something that will be on their mind. Even having said that, we don’t think they would be too worried about that.

Chennai Super Kings are at their best and this is evident from their stellar net run-rate as well. Apart from captaincy, the primary reason for Super Kings’ show has been their opening pair. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis have been brilliant at the top of the order and the numbers reflect that. Running regularly has also been a reason for CSK’s middle order not getting enough opportunities to close out the game. Having said that, the result of the previous match should act as a wake-up call for the management as well as the middle overs batsmen.

Although Chennai Super Kings have a one-dimensional bowling attack, they have done a great job with it. The likes of Deepak Chahar and Josh Hazlewood have already been impressive and Dwayne Bravo has made a mark in the death overs. His unsung hero with the ball, however, has been Shardul Thakur, who has been pretty consistent on all surfaces against all types of batting units. Also, with many all-rounders available, Chennai Super Kings is rich in bowling resources and that too has proved to be quite useful.

It could be argued that Chennai Super Kings seem to be losing steam at the business end of the tournament. However, we think it is too early to tell. They are facing two losses in a row and this upcoming match against Punjab Kings could be a true test of character for a team which has lost just four matches so far.

The Super Kings have done almost everything right in the tournament, but they have a few holes to plug. Their middle order has barely been in place and we can see some fresh faces running in this upcoming competition. Also, it will be interesting to see if MS Dhoni wants to test his team in adverse conditions by winning the toss and opting to bat.

Overall, they have a good side and with the experience available at their disposal, they should be able to overcome these issues. A win in the upcoming match would settle the debate to a large extent, but a defeat may well sound a warning bell. Having said all this, they will be relying on experienced guys in the upcoming match and if they are able to step up their game, then CSK should take an easy win in this upcoming competition.

Likely XI: Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, RV Uthappa, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, SN Thakur, Deepak Chahar, JR Hazlewood

Punjab Kings (PBKS):

Punjab Kings may be out of the tournament for all practicality, but for those wondering if there is a mathematical chance for them to qualify, we have good news. They can still qualify for the playoffs, but this upcoming competition will require not only a massive win, but also Kolkata Knight Riders to beat Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad.

At the moment, Punjab Kings are at the sixth position in the points table with the constraints of their net run rate. His net run rate is -0.241, which is better than the Royals but far behind KKR. Looking at the scenarios, the Kings are largely out of contention and it will be interesting to see what approach they take in this upcoming encounter.

The previous match became a familiar story for them as they failed to seal the deal despite landing early. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal once managed to make a solid stand which did not take much time but the lack of contribution from the middle order pulled Punjab Kings back. The Punjab management was expecting a lot from Nicholas Pooran but with the tournament being completed and dusty, we may see a change in this upcoming competition.

Punjab’s middle-order problems are quite obvious and they will be vulnerable against the bowling unit of the Kings, which have plenty of options to bowl to the middle overs. On the bowling front, Punjab Kings have done well and almost everyone has contributed for them. The last match, against Royal Challengers Bangalore, was more of an anomaly as Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami were all ready for runs.

Overall, Punjab Kings have not performed as poorly as the points table shows, but they will surely be the most disappointed team of the season. They failed to capitalize when they were in control and would be doomed to miss a playoff spot by a whisker. They have also not been able to handle pressure cooker conditions very well. On paper, they have all the firepower a team needs in an IPL match and if their usual suspects are able to do well in this upcoming match, then Chennai Super Kings’ job will be over.

Likely XI: Lokesh Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Sarfaraz Khan, Harpreet Brar, Shahrukh Khan, Moises Henriques, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh.
