Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings (RRvCSK): Match no. 47 of VIVO IPL 2021 will be played between these two teams RR vs CSK, The match will begin on 02 October 2021 at 07:30 PM IST.

Team winner Prediction:

61%
CSK
39%
RR

Key Points:

  • Chennai Super Kings have been a better side between the two, both on on-paper balance and on performance
  • Rajasthan Royals have not really had a sizable contribution from their middle-order in any of their last few matches
  • Bowlers and batsmen have both been in brilliant form for the Super Kings in the tournament up until now

RR vs CSK Analysis:

This is it then. Chennai Super Kings will be delighted to become the first team to qualify for the playoffs, knocking Sunrisers Hyderabad out of the playoff race. All eight teams have now played a total of 11 matches each and six of them are competing for the three remaining slots. Also, with Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers also looking good, the race is basically between the four teams for one remaining spot.

Rajasthan Royals are just one step away from being eliminated and they have a tough test to face. Up next in the tournament are Rajasthan Royals set to take on Chennai Super Kings in a match that holds contrasting importance for these two sides. While Chennai Super Kings have already qualified and might want to rest a few of their players, Rajasthan Royals would need a win for their survival in the race.

Match Details:

Date: October 02, 2021
Time: 07:30 PM (IST)
Venue: Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi
Live Streaming: Disney+ Hotstar
TV: Star Sports Network.

Pitch and Weather Conditions:

Sharjah in 2021 is very different from Sharjah in 2020. The pitch is slow, spin-friendly, and makes it is very difficult for the batsmen. Scores of around 130 have been tough to chase down and we think 150-160 could be a winning total in this match as well.

The spinners are going to dominate in this match and we are going to bet on this being a low-scoring thriller once more.

RR vs CSK- Head to Head

Rajasthan Royals (RR):

No team would be as disappointed as Rajasthan Royals given the way things have panned out in the second half of the tournament. Rajasthan Royals started their UAE campaign on a winning note and just when they were looking in prime position to qualify for the playoffs, they lost their way. They have shown moments of brilliance in all the matches they have played, but those were too few too far to get them a favorable result.

As it currently stands, the Royals are placed second from the bottom of the points table and will need something special to qualify from here. Coupled with the eight points they have, they have a pretty poor net run rate of -0.468, which is also going to play a massive role if the Royals are to qualify for the playoffs.

Not only have the Royals been chaotic on the field, they have also been pretty much the same with respect to the selection. They have chopped and changed their playing eleven in almost every match they have played up until now and we expect the same in this upcoming match as well. They have plenty of talent available on the bench in the form of Glenn Phillips and David Miller, and they can make their way into the side. Besides, Chris Morris has been pretty poor with the ball and we might see him sitting out.

Rajasthan Royals have been good in patches, but not truly up to the mark. While they have been decent with the ball, they have blown hot and cold with the bat. In the previous match as well, we saw them lose the plot despite Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal getting them off to a terrific start.

All in all, they have a decent side on paper, but really need to focus on execution. With the likes of Sanju Samson, Mustafizur Rahman, and Evin Lewis in prime form, they will be fancying their chances. If they can get ample support from their middle-order, the Royals will certainly stand a good chance even against the high-flying Super Kings unit.

Likely XI: Evin Lewis, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Liam Livingston, Mahipal Lomror, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Chris Morris, Chetan Sakaria, Karthik Tyagi, Mustafizur Rahman

Chennai Super Kings (CSK):

Not many would have thought Chennai Super Kings to bounce back in a way they did after having a terrible 2020 season. Not only have they been brilliant this year, they have performed with pretty much the same side. Almost everyone has performed brilliantly for them and that is evident by their top of the table position.

Chennai Super Kings have lost only a couple of matches up until now and they did manage to put up a decent fight in both of those matches. With 18 points to their name, CSK are already certain of their top-two finish, but would still want to get a win to gather some momentum going into the playoffs. Also, their net run rate of 1.002 is best amongst all sides in the competition.

The primary reason for their superb performance is their opening pair that has scored runs at the speed of knots. Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad have both been prolific and have together been the second best opening partnership of the tournament. We saw their impact in CSK’s last match as they knocked off more than half of the target in no time.

Apart from the opening pair, it is their bowling that has worked wonders. Dwayne Bravo, Josh Hazlewood, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur have all bowled well in all situations and will hold the key to CSK’s fortunes.

Even though CSK have been good on the whole, they too have had their share of points to improve upon. The likes of Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni have looked out of form and this match will be an opportunity for both of them to get some runs before the knockouts.

All in all, there is only a little that the Super Kings have done wrong and it will be interesting to see how they do in this upcoming match. Besides, we might as well see some changes to rest their senior players. Having said that, if they are able to perform as they have been doing, getting past them will be exceedingly difficult.

Likely XI: Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, SK Raina, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, SN Thakur, Deepak Chahar, JR Hazlewood.
