Team winner Prediction:

Key Points:

  • With the openers finally firing, Kolkata Knight Riders appear to be having a better-balanced side between the two, at least on paper
  • Although Mumbai Indians have an accomplished frontline bowling attack, they do lack the fifth and sixth bowling options in the absence of Hardik Pandya
  • Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, and Shubhman Gill looked in terrific form in the last match and will not be easy to deal with

MI vs KKR Analysis:

The recently concluded match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab is yet another reminder of why the Indian Premier League is such an incredible tournament. The Rajasthan Royals win has certainly opened up the points table and now the battle for the fourth place is well and truly between Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals.

Considering the condition of these two sides, it is an important match and all guns blazing are expected from both the sides. A contest cracker is definitely on the cards – definitely not one to miss.

Time: 07:30 PM (IST)

Pitch and Weather Conditions:

The pitch at Abu Dhabi is flat and usually good for batting. It has a nice amount of bounce and allows the batsmen to play their shots freely. The bowlers have to work hard for their wickets but spinners can usually get a little bit of help from the surface. The dimensions of the boundaries are quite large as well.

The par score is expected to be something around 170 batting first.

Mumbai Indians (MI):

Even though Mumbai Indians have lost their first match of the second half of the season, they will not be worried. After all, they are known to be slow starters and flourishing finishers. However, it will be difficult for him to move forward as he does not have many matches to take things forward.

Currently, Mumbai Indians are at the fourth position in the points table with eight points from the same number of matches. He has a decent net run to add to his four points, but he would like to have a few wins under his belt to keep himself in the top half of the points table.

While Mumbai Indians had a lot of positivity from the previous game, they will be mainly looking at the areas they need to fix. He conceded a lot of runs on the death against Chennai Super Kings but the fact that he let CSK get into the run-scoring position is something he would need to consider.

We are hopeful that there will be some changes in their playing XI, including the return of Rohit Sharma to the team. Quinton de Kock looked in unbelievable form against Chennai Super Kings and with the return of Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians opening pair is looking good. In fact, you can bet on the pair to form a fifty-run partnership, which looks very tempting considering the returns on offer.

Mumbai Indians have a good batting unit with players like Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard in the middle order. However, it remains to be seen whether Hardik Pandya makes it to the playing XI or not. Here in the last match the surface was not really conducive for the spinners and we can very well see that Kunal Pandya sits out for Hardik Pandya if the younger brother is indeed fully fit.

On the bowling front, Mumbai Indians look well settled with three front-line fast bowlers, all looking in good form. Rahul Chahar played his part brilliantly against the Super Kings and is expected to lead the spin department for Mumbai Indians. We saw Mumbai Indians struggling to fill the fifth bowler’s overs in the last match and considering that KKR have some left-handers in the top order, Mumbai Indians are wary of using Krunal Pandya as the fifth bowler. One more case for Hardik is to come brother.

Overall, Mumbai Indians showed some weaknesses in the last match but given the form and character they have shown over the years, they will not be worried. They have an immaculately balanced side with almost all bases. Bringing the fifth bowler in the overs cheaply could be a problem in the coming match and if they are able to deal with it, it will be a tough team for them to deal with.

Likely XI: Rohit Sharma (C), Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan (wk), Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Adam Milne, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR):

Kolkata Knight Riders could not have expected a better start than the second half of the Indian Premier League 2021. Not only did he declare victory in his first match after the break, but he did it so well that he was in a sudden rush to win. This. in the top four.

Currently ranked sixth on the points table, a win over Kolkata Knight Riders will push them to the fourth spot on the ladder. As it stands at present, he has won three matches in eight matches and has a net run rate of 0.110.

His performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore was quite different from his performance in the first half of the tournament. While their bowlers were doing a good job earlier as well, their batting suddenly looked more confident and ready. Shubman Gill was more aggressive in his approach and was well complemented by Venkatesh Iyer at the top of the order. Also, sending Andre Russell to the third spot in the previous match was certainly a welcome move and there are signs that he may be promoted to bat in the upcoming matches as well.

On the bowling front, KKR will be quite excited that Andre Russell has finally managed to regain his fitness that he can bowl consistently. Against the Royals Challengers, he paid off straight as he took three wickets for just nine runs in his three overs. Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowling looks as balanced as ever, with Varun Chakravarthy, Pramukh Krishna, Lockie Ferguson and Sunil Narine available. Also, they have bowlers like Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathi available to bowl if one of their bowlers has a day off.

Overall, Kolkata Knight Riders eventually managed to achieve what they struggled to deal with in the first half of the competition. Even having said that, their middle order is still pretty much unhelpful and it will be interesting to see how it performs against an efficient bowling attack from Mumbai Indians. On paper, he certainly has a lot of fire-power available. If Kolkata Knight Riders is able to keep the strike bowlers away from Mumbai Indians, it will be incredibly difficult to beat them.

Likely XI: Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan (Captain), Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik, Sunil Narine, Venkatesh Iyer, Lucie Ferguson, Varun Chakraborty, Prasidh Krishna
