IPL 2021: Match 10 RCB vs KKR- RCB won by 38 runs

0 99

RCB– 204/4 (20 over)

Glenn Maxwell- 78(49)

Ab de Villiers- 76(34)

KKR- 166/8 (20 over)

Andre Russell- 32(20)

RESULT: RCB won by 38 runs

A clinical all-round performance from RCB. They’re probably the only side who must be relishing not having to play at home. Their bowlers have adapted brilliantly to the Chepauk conditions and Maxwell’s entry in that middle order has beefed up the batting as well.

RCB reclaim the top position for now and remain the only unbeaten side of the tournament. Is it finally their time to rule? Well, too early but they certainly have begun well, winning the first three games of the season for the first time ever certainly is a step in the right direction. KKR continue to have too many stars but no real clarity in the batting department. This defeat will hurt them, even as they try to come out of the shock that the loss to MI was. Plenty of problems to solve for them but it’s still a long tournament. Speaking of the tournament, we’re running out of time as the next game of the double-header is coming your way. So, switch tabs and enjoy.

I had a lot of fun out there. It helped with Maxi playing well up front and it made it really easy and gave the guys confidence that it’s not unplayable. It’s difficult when you come into games like these where the wicket tends to be a bit slow, you gotta break the shackles individually which some of our players did tonight. It was definitely a better wicket, probably not a 200 wicket. I surprise myself sometimes and you just gotta go out there and give out your best, the most important thing is I enjoy myself and I love playing cricket and I love playing for this team, they are my family over the years and a lot of reasons for me to be happy to really enjoy my cricket. You take it one game at a time and you’re only as good as your last game.

It’s an amazing feeling, when you are bowling well and not getting wickets, sometimes hurts. But getting that first wicket, I felt a bit emotional. I was trying to get him (Andre Russell) out, I wanted to bowl wider because the leg-side boundary was shorter, so after three balls, I changed my field. Their run-rate was over 10, I wanted to bowl more dot balls and just stuck to my plan. It will be a totally different wicket in Mumbai, there will be a slight turn but usually will be good for batting.

It was nice to get in early. It became hard to time the ball as the innings went on, looked to cash in against the new ball. He (AB de Villiers) did it in the first game, showed his class, was an extraordinary knock, just shows that if you give yourself some time, you can play shots on this surface. Looking to make the most of the form. We’ll have to bowl well, use the variations, be accurate, playing shots is easy when there is plenty of pace on the ball.

(Whether RCB got too many runs) Yeah, evidently so. The wicket did play better than we thought it was going to. It was RCB’s day with the bat, they made use of any tiny errors with the ball. But I can’t fault our efforts. We gave it absolutely everything in the field today. Tried our best in the chase but not to be. It (Chepauk pitch) certainly stumped me. I’m glad to be leaving Chennai. Turned out to be a great cricket wicket. As I said before, RCB’s batting today was just too good for us. Probably not (on Varun not bowling again in Powerplay). Maxwell is a destructive player but he isn’t there only star player. You do need an over or two up your sleeve for someone like De Villiers. They are full of strength and depth. Every side in the competition is. So you can’t plan for just one player. We struggled to kick on (in the chase) and got to a stage where only Russell could get us going. He’s done it a few times before but today, RCB’s bowling was too good. Completely difference in conditions there (in Mumbai) for different nights. We’ve been watching the games.
