In the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) next eight-year Future Tour Program (FTP), the T20 World Cup will be held every two years, while 14 teams will participate in the 50-over World Cup from 2027. Also in the next round, four seasons of the World Test Championship (WTC) and two Champions Trophy will be played.
The ICC said after the board meeting on Tuesday, “The ICC Board has today (on Monday) confirmed the schedule from 2024 to 2031, in which the Men’s Cricket World Cup and T20 World Cup will be played and the Champions Trophy will be held again. Apart from this, a decision was also taken on Tuesday regarding the ODI and T20 World Cup. Earlier 16 teams used to play in T20 World Cup whereas now it has been decided to increase it to 20. At the same time, the ODI World Cup used to play 10 teams earlier, which has been decided to increase to 14. The T20 World Cup will be held in 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030. The ODI World Cup is to be held in 2027 and 2031. During this, the final matches of the four World Test Championship will also be played. The first final of the tournament is to be played between India and New Zealand from June 18 to 22 next month.
