The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a big decision regarding domestic cricket. BCCI will organize Under-25 tournament instead of Under-23 this year, which will benefit the cricketers who got over-aged without playing domestic cricket last year due to Corona virus.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jay Shah, Vice President Rajiv Shukla, Joint Secretary Jayesh George and Treasurer Arun Kumar Dhumal held a meeting in New Delhi on Saturday. The meeting also discussed the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BCCI. It is known that this post is vacant after the departure of Rahul Johri. Advertisement for this post will be out soon. In the same month, BCCI had announced the domestic schedule in which it had said that all age group domestic tournaments would be organized along with the prestigious Ranji Trophy. However, this time the board will not organize the Deodhar and Duleep trophies apart from the Irani Cup. In the program presented by the board, it was said that ODIs, CK Nayudu (Bahudini) and Vinoo Mankad Trophy (ODI) tournaments will be held in Under-23.
An official of the board said that BCCI organizes Under-16, Under-19 and Under-23 tournaments in age group but in 2020-21 only two tournaments of senior category, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare tournament were organized. In such a situation, there were many players who became over-aged without playing under-23. Under-16 can play over-age under-19, under-19 can play over-age under-23 but who has not played in under-23, it becomes difficult to come in senior team, so we have taken this decision. That this time under-25 will be replaced instead of under-23. This will give a chance to those players who were over-aged due to not playing last year.
It is known that the current season will start with the Senior Women’s ODI League from 21 September (2021). This will be followed by the Senior Women’s One Day Challenger Trophy from 27 October 2021. The final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be played on 12 November 2021. The Ranji Trophy will be held from 16 November 2021 to 19 February 2022. The final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played on March 26. The CK Nayudu Trophy is to begin from November 18, the Vinoo Mankad Trophy from September 28 and the ODI tournament from February 23 next year. Along with this, BCCI has also decided that it will not be mandatory to feed only two Ranji players in this age group.
